WVP: Internal Resources

The files below are available for download and use by approved researchers. Do not redistribute data files without permission.

All of the quantitative data represent cleaned data from 56 villages. The data set is maintained in 5 files which may be merged or analyzed separately depending on the variables of interest. Typically, data sets are merged based on village and household number identifiers. The files correspond with the different surveys used: SES and Household Demographics files represent the core household survey; Food Security represents the Food Security and Nutrition survey; HIV KAP represents the HIV/AIDS Knowledge, Attitude and Practice survey; and Under-5 represents the survey on nutrition, health and anthropometrics for children under five.

The quantitative data are distributed in Stata format.

Before beginning any analysis of the data, be sure to review the materials in the Supporting Documents section below , starting with the READ ME FIRST document, which describes the data collection protocol for each instrument and background on the project.

Each of the files below is a zipped archive file. Right-click to download:

Other relevant supporting documents include copies of the survey tools, data dictionaries and a Master Variables summary for each survey highlighting variable name changes and additions with new survey iterations.

Qualitative Data

Qualitative data for the 56 villages are contained in two zip files below. The first is a copy of the "raw" data as it arrives in English-language Excel spreadsheets. All names and occupation data have been removed from the data to protect confidentiality. Qualitative data include focus group summaries and key informant interviews conducted in every village. Data are organized in folders by the focus group or interview theme, such as Women's Focus Group or Agricultural Focus Group.

Qualitative Data

The UMN research team collated summaries of the qualitative data in Word documents, to pull together information in a single sector across the multiple focus groups and interviews. For example, within a village, we have a report on Education which combines input from the Men's and Women's focus groups and the Headmaster interview. Other summary reports include Agriculture and Livestock, Health, Protected Areas & Human-Wildlife Conflict, Village Problems and Civic Engagement, Other Livelihood Resources and Institutional Analysis.
